Abstract

According to the time interval of interest (i.e. short, medium or long term dynamics) suitable models for dynamic contingency analysis are discussed. The problem of fast integration methods for minimal computer simulation time requirements is treated in some detail. Futhermore the models are used to calculate the thermal reserve for any operating point. A new structure of the boiler control leads to an improved dynamic response after large disturbances For illustration purposes the dynamic behaviour after a large contingency occurring in a test system interconnected to a large power system is studied with the slow speed dynamic model. The same test system is also analysed with the medium term dynamic model under the assumption that the tielines do not withstand the power swings and hence open
