Abstract

The architectural heritage of Úbeda (Jaén) has been the subject of numerous interventions throughout the 20th.-21th. centuries, especially highlighting the actuation carried out by the architects of the General Directorate of Fine Arts (Ministry of Culture) and the Council of Culture and Historical Heritage of Junta de Andalucía.
With this text we try to delve into the first interventions carried out in the city at the beginning of the 20th. century, analyzing the projects of architects such Antonio Flórez Urdapilleta, Luís Berges Martínez or Leopoldo Torres Balbás, who would act in monuments like as the Hospital de Santiago or the Church of Santa María de los Reales Alcázares. In the same way, will be analyzed some of the measures proposed at this time aimed at combating the plundering and destruction of historical heritage.
