Abstract

The idea of conservation comprises of all the procedures that aimed at looking after a place in order to maintain the historical, architectural, aesthetic and cultural significance and also includes maintenance, preservation, restoration, reconstruction and adoption or an amalgamation of more than one of these. On the other hand, preservation includes maintaining the fabric of a place in its present condition and checking deterioration. Both are the processes through which variety of projects have been made and implemented to protect several Indian temples as most of them are declared by Archaeological Survey of India as national heritage. In this research paper, an important attempt has been made to understand how successful the different projects are in conserving and preserving Indian temples which have been declared as heritage sites by the government of India. In this end, efforts are made o analyse the present condition of these monuments from the critical lenses.
