Abstract

The objective of this research was to characterize the level of knowledge of nursing staff about sterilization methods at the Especialidades Quirúrgicas DOS C.A clinic, located in Caracas, Venezuela. A descriptive study was carried out with a cross-sectional field design. The main results revealed that, on average, 63% of the health professionals studied had deficiencies in the application of the sterilization process. Both the knowledge and the procedures carried out by the professionals were at a regular level. In conclusion, the need to implement training programs was evident to address the deficiencies detected both in the theoretical aspects and in the procedures related to the sterilization process carried out by the nursing staff of the sample. It is necessary to develop a training program for personnel working in the sterilization unit, as well as an induction program for new workers.
