Abstract
Chondrosarcomas are a malign type of bone tumours arising from cartilaginous tissue. Their behaviour and prognosis depends on their histological grade and radiological characteristics, and thus their treatment of choice. We present a case about a 55-year-old woman with a bone mass in her left femur seen in imaging studies. After the biopsy, it was diagnosed as a low-grade chondrosarcoma. A new X-ray prior to the surgery showed signs of greater aggressiveness, reason why a more extensive surgery was performed. The surgical piece confirmed a dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma, achieving tumour-free surgical margins. It is very important to correlate the biopsy’s histology with the tumour’s clinical-radiological behaviour, as it is important to perform an adequate preoperative study in order to plan the most appropriate surgical approach.
