Abstract

Concha bullosa is the widely accepted name of the hyperpneumatized middle turbinate and it represents one of the most common causes of obstruction at the middle meatus. A rare clinical situation is the concha bullosa mucocele. These pathological entities determine the growth of the middle turbinate, leading to negative consequences on the nasal physiology: local obstruction, impaired mucociliary clearance, alteration of the sinus ventilation and sinus drainage, chronic inflammation. Most of the time, patients are describing the presence of a persistent headache syndrome. The surgical techniques under endoscopic control aim at solving these elements of pathology in order to improve the quality of life for these patients.
