Abstract

This paper provides a brief overview of the Conceptual Metaphor Theory. Purpose and methods. The purpose of the paper is to identify conceptual metaphors specific to the work of Dan Brown’s Digital Fortress and to find out whether the metaphorical ima-ge is preserved in the Russian translation. The first step is to review conceptual metaphors in Dan Brown’s Digital Fortress. Secondly the analysis shows that the conceptual metaphor ENCRYPTION IS FIGHT is widely used by the author in Digital Fortress. Results. Metaphor can be seen not nearly in a word or word expression, it pervades the whole work. The paper focuses on the issue of preserving the metaphorical image in the Russian translation. It is found that the translator doesn’t only render the metaphor of one language by the metaphor in another language, but it’s made within the same metaphorical model.
