Abstract
Abstract A survey of the current status of academic computer networking in Europe is given. The main guidelines of the European project EUREKA-8/COSINE are presented. This aims to interconnect present-day researchers in Europe by means of computer-based communications on a vendor-independent approach, without the use of proprietary protocols and services, but by means of international agreement.
