Abstract

Annual Olympiads in various specialized subjects are held for students by different higher education institutions to find talented youth, develop students' interest in their future profession, assess professional knowledge and skills. This article observes possible option of preparing students to participate in such Olympiads on the example of a course in theoretical foundations of electrical engineering. Analytical solutions of two problems of increased complexity in the theory of electrical circuits are considered. A detailed solution of the problem on direct current and the problem of calculating a symmetrical three-phase circuit in a steady-state sinusoidal mode with two different loads is given. The application of specialized software for students' result self-control is shown. This paper considers two software products such NI Multisim 14.1 - paid computer program- and Qucs - software distributed under a free license.
