Abstract
Image guidance techniques for assistance of “proximal femur” fracture reduction are presented. Firstly, a simple and accurate 6DOF reposition planning method of the two fragments using “volume registration” of preoperative CT data is proposed by assuming that the left and right femurs of normal patients are mirror-symmetric. Secondly, a method for floroscopic tracking of the proximal fragment without attaching the reference markers is proposed. The method effectively combines 2D/3D registration from a single-view fluoroscopic image with the constraint of “hip joint rotation center” obtained by pelvis tracking. The reposition planning and fluoroscopic tracking methods were validated by simulation experiments using CT data of healthy and fractured femurs, respectively. The total error of the whole system was also evaluated.
