Abstract

Reported are details and examples of one architectural/engineering firm's efforts to increase the efficiency of the analysis and design of commercial buildings. Described is the application of software developed in-house by the company to several multistory structures. Details of program use and features are described with case histories of the preliminary design development for two multistory structures-a 59-story hotel and a 34-story office building. Comparisons are made relative to structural economics of the firm's projects with the United States average for 66 other multistory buildings. The economics and benefits of in-house software development are examined.
