Abstract
The increasing complexity of the railway technologies, the even more stringent constraints imposed by economical issues and the need for a user-oriented approach to the effectiveness requirements to be ensured during operation, impose railway operators to massively use computerised tools for the maintenance activities planning and management. It is widely recognised that new maintenance information systems should be structured according to the Reliability Centered Maintenance procedure. In this paper, the authors present the preliminary results of the conceptual design of a software tool aimed to automate the railway maintenance planning process. The RCM-based Optimisation System for Automated planning of railway Maintenance, ROSAM, supports the maintenance planning activities in order to reduce costs and to reach high effectiveness targets.
