Abstract

A potentiometric investigation on the formation of iron(II) complexes with diglycolic (H 2DG) and iminodiacetic acid (H 2Im) at 25°C in aqueous 0·5 M NaClO 4 medium is reported. In acid medium and in the investigated concentration ranges (2·48 m M ⩽ C m ⩽ 0·95 m M, 2·0 m M ⩽ C L ⩽ 12·5 m M) experimental data can be explained for the iron(II) diglicolate with the formation of one mononu-clear complex with 1 : 1 metal ligand molar ratio; for the iron(II) iminodiacetate with the formation of two mononuclear complexes with 1 : 1 and 1 : 2 metal:ligand molar ratios. The over-all formation constants and the related equilibria are: Fe 2+ + DG 2− ⇌ FeDG log β 1 = 2·18 ± 0·01 Fe 2+ + lm 2− ⇌ Felm log β 1 = 5·54 ± 0·01 Fe 2+ + 2 lm 2− ⇌ Fe(lm) 2 −2 log β 2 = 9·81 ± 0·01
