Abstract

The paper presents the biotesting results of aqueous solutions of polyhexamethyl guanidine of grade Aquaton with a goal of investigating the impact of toxic, genotoxic, and cytotoxic influence of the compounds of the guanidine series on plant and animal test-organisms and their cells, i.e., assessments of their ecological safety. The given compound prepared on model and natural waters at the concentration 0.01 and 0.1 mg/dm3 causes toxic and genotoxic effects in animal and plant biotests and cellular biomakers. The concentration 0.01 mg/dm3 was an ecological safety boundary. The proposed complex approach concurrently using batteries of animal and plant test-organisms and their cells is an effective instrument for conducting a comprehensive analysis of recommended working and residual concentration of newly developed coagulants and flocculants.
