Abstract

Objective To compare the clinical efficacy of apexification used mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA)or calcium hydroxide (CH). Methods 120 teeth with open apices were randomly divided into two groups. One group was treated with MTA and the other group was treated with CH. All the patients were observed the clinical reaction every 3 months after treatment and followed up for 2 years. Results The average visit times were 3.1 in MTA group and 7.2 in CH group. The average period was 14.1 days in MTA group and 363.2 days in CH group. After 2 years, the rate of successful apex closure in MTA group(96.7% )was better than that in CH group(71.7% ) ,and it was significanfly different ( P < 0.01 ). Conclusion MTA can abbreviate therapy period, improve the rate of success in apexfication and treat teeth with open apices more effectively. It is a suitable replacement for calcium hydroxide for the apexification procedure. Key words: Apexification; Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA); Calcium hydroxide
