Abstract

This paper investigates a novel two-converters based operation of a Brushless Doubly Fed Reluctance Machine (BDFRM). The BDFRM has a ducted rotor, and the stator is wound with two distributed windings which are fed from two separate power converters. Operation theory with frequency sharing between the two windings is introduced and corresponding FEA simulations are analyzed. The proposed BDFRM design and the actual motor drive implementation processes are briefly discussed. The testing of the drive is underway and some experimental results are provided for demonstration.
