Abstract

Brushless Doubly Fed Reluctance Machines (BDFRM) are considered economic candidate in wind power generation systems, since they can be controlled with a bi-directional power converter that has much lower power ratings. This paper presents a new Partitioned-Stator Doubly Fed Brushless machine (PS BDFRM). The proposed machine has the control windings accommodated in the outer stator and the power windings accommodated in the inner stator, whereas the rotor, which is iron pieces combined with non-magnetic holder, is rotating between both stators. The time stepping 2D FEA software is used to analyze and compare the proposed machine with a conventional ducted-rotor (DR) BDFRM having the same main design parameters and have been optimized based on the same goal functions. It is found that the proposed topology has high power density with reduced weight.
