Abstract

Low temperature specific heat, magnetic susceptibility and electrical resistivity have been observed comparatively for amorphous (a-) CeCu 6 and LaCu 6 alloys. The a-CeCu 6 alloy is a heavy fermion system characterized by enhanced low temperature specific heat. However, the random atomic stacking masks the electron correlations for forming the Kondo singlet state and/or magnetic ordering. Since the amorphous structure also suppresses the itinerancy of 4f electrons, it reduces the contribution of the Fermi liquid degeneracy of the 4f electrons to the electrical resistivity at low temperatures.
