Abstract

In order to better understand the frequency and patterns of drug abuse and drinking among college students in West Bengal, this study will look at how family size may have an impact on these behaviours. Understanding how family factors, particularly being a single child or having siblings, may contribute to substance misuse among young adults is the driving force behind the research. We use a mixed-methods approach to collect information from a wide range of college students across West Bengal, including surveys and in-depth interviews. The role of peer pressure, the effects of familial ties, and the demographic and socioeconomic aspects connected to addiction are all examined in our study. We aim to shed light on whether being a single kid or having siblings affects college students' propensity to engage in drug addiction or alcoholism through thorough data analysis. The results of this study will improve our knowledge of addiction patterns and guide targeted treatments and policies meant to prevent and address substance usage in this demographic, thereby enhancing the wellbeing of young people in West Bengal.
