Abstract Background: The monitoring of glucose plays an inevitable role in diabetes management. Over the years, technological leaps in diabetes management have contributed immensely to improving the quality of life of people with diabetes. Along with the multitude of benefits, these technologies provide, particularly glucose meters, the chances of compromises in the accuracy and precision of these devices also exist due to high competition among the manufacturers. Hence, it is essential, that both people with diabetes and healthcare professionals be aware of the accuracy and precision of glucose meters and whether they meet the accuracy standards recommended by international organizations such as the International Organization for Standardization and the Food and Drug Administration to avoid severe consequences. Aim: The study aims to evaluate and compare the accuracy, performance, and precision of five glucosemeters On Call Plus, Cool, One Touch, Contour Plus, and Accu-chek Instant in people without diabetes, with type1 diabetes, and with type 2 diabetes. Result: The results revealed that all the glucose meters chosen for the study showed reasonably satisfactory clinical accuracy and precision in people without and with type 2 diabetes. However, in the cohort with type 1 diabetes, the performance of the meters was only moderately satisfactory. Conclusion: The study brings into the limelight the importance of evaluating the accuracy and precision of glucose monitoring devices, irrespective of blindly believing the technology.
