Abstract

In Mark 6,34, there is a deep incursion of the narrator into the feelings and mind of Jesus, concerned by what he sees: the “great crowd”. This was mostly made up by victims of the exclusionary system of the Roman Empire of the fi rst century in Palestine. Based on the literary-exegetical analysis of Mk 6,34, we may infer that the establishing of God’s reign happens when faith is expressed objectively in action. From the hermeneutic point of view, it can be stated that, since the origins of Christianity, the Christian social practice refl ects the action of Jesus, which was directed to the promotion of community life, in order to meet the primary and fundamental needs of human beings. The analysis shows that religious principles can and should lead to compassion, indignation, social responsibility and transforming praxis.
