Abstract

A compact dual-band antenna with large frequency ratio is investigated in this paper. The presented antenna, which can cover 3.5 GHz and 28 GHz bands, is realized by the reuse of the tapered slot. At microwave band, the antenna operates as a dipole antenna and the tapered slot works as a portion of feeding structure, while at millimeter-wave band, the tapered slot works as a radiator. The 50 Ω microstrip line, integrated with a compact microstrip resonance cell (CMRC) low-pass filter is used to transmit the corresponding signals to feed different antennas. For verifying, the prototype of the antenna is fabricated on a Rogers 5880 substrate with an overall size of 45 × 40.8 × 0.254 mm3 and the reasonable agreement between measured and simulated results is obtained. The proposed dual-band antenna with compact aperture is a practical candidate for the future wireless communication.
