Abstract

For the local treatment of a number of bowel disorders such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, amoebiasis and sand, colonic cancer, the local treatment of colonic pathologies, and the systemic distribution of protein and peptide medicines, targeted drug delivery into the colon is extremely desirable. A medication must be properly formulated for colon-focused drug delivery. To ensure sudden or controlled release in the proximal colon, the substance must first be shielded from degradation, release, and absorption in the upper GI tract.
