Abstract
Coherence determines a team’s effectiveness, assuming an optimal combination of individual activities. To describe the content of coherence in teams of open-source software developers is the main aim of the study. A total of 114,016 sequences of interactions related to pull requests from 979 open-source projects make up the purposive sample of the research. An automated observation process utilising a large language model was used as a method of data analysis. According to the analysis, coherence as a characteristic of effective teams is defined by the unity of purpose, acceptance of functional differentiation between roles, and a high pace of software development. Each participant motivates one another to carry out the subsequent set of actions. Contributors make a clear addition, team members manage the procedure, respond quickly and approve the actions.
