Cognitive Reference for Narrative Semiotics – Greimas as a Sample

Abstract

This study tried to demonstrate the cognitive dimension of semiotic research. Each research in the branches of semiotic requires a deep search of the origins. During this perception, this study identified the most important cognitive roots upon which the narrative semiotic through Paris School of Semiotics, private with Greimas as the real founder of this school. This study has confirmed that the most important foundations of knowledge upon which this school are: 1 The Russian formalist trend 2 Linguistics various trends (Saussure, Jakobson...). According to these roots, Geimas built a new knowledge and perception of the methodology to approach narrative texts. The latter based on perception of new and efficient to reflect on the meaning of the text.
