Abstract
Cyclohexanone is an important oxygenated intermediate in the conversion of lignin to bio-fuel. Following the importance of bio-fuel production and conversion of lignin-derived bio-oils, the deoxygenation of cyclohexanone is pursued. Two hydrotreating catalysts composed of cobalt, molybdenum, and alumina support were evaluated at 300–400 °C and 1–15 bar. The catalysts showed high activity and selectivity toward the conversion of cyclohexanone in the presence of hydrogen. The major obtained hydrocarbons were cyclohexane, cyclohexene, benzene, and cyclohexylbenzene indicating the capability of producing hydrocarbon-rich products. The catalysts composed of 3.4 wt% cobalt and 13.6 wt% molybdenum gave more than 89% cyclohexanone conversion and 100% hydrocarbon selectivity at 400 °C and 15 bar.
