Abstract
Patients underwent haemodialysis seem to be at particular risk of developing severe COVID-19 disease due to co-morbidities and the higher risk of infective complications. In this report we describe the clinical features and the outcome of 8 haemodialysis patients who were hospitalised for severe COVID-19 pneumonia with diffuse ground-glass opacity between 10 March and 8 May at our hospital. Data on clinical and demographic characteristics, blood tests at admission in the Emergency Department, co-morbidities, treatment for COVID-19 pneumonia and outcome (death or survival) were collected; differences between death and survival patients according to these variables were compared using a two tail Student t-test. Demographic and clinical features. Blood tests A high percentage of subjects died, confirming that these patients have an increased risk of infective complications and an impairment of immune system. The increase of inflammatory parameters seems associated with a more severe disease. Further observations including a larger number of patients are needed to better define the full spectrum of clinical features and the optimal clinical and diagnostic approach in hemodyalisis patients with COVID-19 pneumonia.
