Abstract

In order to obtain a clean surface, we heated Bi2Sr2CaCu2Oy(BSCCO) single crystals in air and investigated their surface states by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). From the results, we found that the carbon and impurity oxygen on the surfaces of BSCCO single crystals were removed by the heat-treatments in air, and that the clean surface was obtained without any deterioration of surface states.
