Abstract

In New Jersey the power to promulgate rules governing the practice and procedure in the state courts is vested in the Supreme Court.' Although the structure of these rules, particularly in the area of appellate review, is relatively straightforward, their application is not without uncertainty. The purpose of this article is to provide a coherent discussion of these rules2 and to illustrate the various avenues of appellate review. Either of two major themes may be reflected in a body of procedural rules dealing with appellate jurisdiction:
