Abstract

The design of water distribution systems and layout of cities can have a major effect on energy associated with water supply. In particular, distribution of water within high-rise buildings can add significantly to energy use and should be taken into consideration when designing and regulating urban water supply systems. This article outlines five steps to help rapidly urbanizing countries plan energy-efficient water distribution systems.
