Abstract

Values, moral and ethics have the defining pillars of human lives since time immemorial. Morals are the principles that defines the rightful and wrongful actions/behaviour associated with human life. Ethics, on the other hand, are the set of rules that regulates the conduct/ behaviour of any individual. Last but not the least; values are ideals that determine the quality of an individual in a society. In modern society, discipline, respect, humility, hard effort, honesty, faithfulness, and other moral and ethical characteristics have frequently been found to be broken down. Youth morality is slipping in the absence of all these ideals, endangering the morality of society as a whole. Thus, the consequent diversion of youth towards various immoral activities has adversely affected the social development in the Indian society. The paper, therefore, attempted to study the degradation of moral values among the age group of 18-25 years. For this purpose, opinion of young people on the decline of moral and ethical standards in Indian society have been studied along with their perspectives with respect to the causes responsible for degradation of the existing value system.
