Abstract

An antiserum prepared againstChrysanthemum virus B reacted positively with extracts from 39 chrysanthemum plants out of a total of 154, belonging to 22 varieties. In all 39 cases,Petunia plants developed symptoms of virus B after inoculation with extracts from the same plants. Of thePetunia plants inoculated with the remaining 115 chrysanthemum extracts which did not react with the antiserum, only one developed symptoms. Reliable results were obtained only with an extraction medium consisting of 1/30 molar phosphate buffer solution, pH 7, including 0.5 percent sodium sulfite.
