Abstract

A reliable and very sensitive derivative adsorption chronopotentiometric method for the determination of trace amounts of aluminum, based on the adsorptive accumulation of its solochrome violet RS complex on the HMDE, was developed in this paper. Experimental conditions were optimized including solution pH value, ionic strength, concentration of solochrome violet RS, preconcentration potential and preconcentration time. The linear working range was 0.27 ± 27 μg/1. The detection limit was 0.14 μg/1 and the relative standard deviation was 1.7% μg/1 Al. This method was applied to the determination of Al in real water samples. Comparison of the proposed method to the voltammetric mode and other ligands is presented.
