Abstract

Bhan et al1 discovered low rates of testing and treatment for mineral and bone disorders in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the primary care setting. In this study, bisphosphonates were prescribed more frequently than vitamin D as treatment for CKD mineral and bone disorders. Bhan's study1 concluded that a lack of knowledge exists about the treatment of metabolic mineral and bone disorders related to chronic kidney failure. The purpose of this article is to increase awareness about the appropriate treatment of metabolic mineral and bone disorders related to CKD.
