Abstract
Chromosomes of six species of aphids infesting different crops from Shimla region of Himachal Pradesh have been studied. These aphids belong to genus Aphis, Hysteroneura, Macrosiphum, Phorodon and Rhopalosiphum. Chromosomes were studied using squash preparation. Diploid chromosome numbers in these species ranged from 2n = 8 to 2n = 12. The actual lengths of chromosomes were measured at metaphase stage and total complement length (TCL) was calculated for each species. Relative lengths of chromosomes were calculated and the idiograms thus constructed are presented.
