Abstract

Triterpenes named as Lupeol, Myricadiol, -sitosterol along with two carboxylic acids named as Tetracosonid and Ursolic acid, have been isolated from leaves of Caryota Urens. Their structures were elucidated by chemical and physical data (IR, UV, 1 H-NMR, and Mass spectra). ascorbic acid 3 , fatty acids, Kernel lipids 4 and sugarsin. 5 Medicinal importance and scanty work on this plant accelerated our interest to carryout the comprehensive study of the plant Caryota urens. The present discussion deals with the isolation and characterization of following compounds. From base leaves of Caryota urens. 1. Triacontane 2. Lupeol 3. Myricadiol 4. -sitosterol. 5. Tetracosonid 6. Ursolic acid
