Abstract

In this research, an effort was made to synthesise AA6063-T6/SiC/WSP hybrid composite utilising the electromagnetic stir casting process (EMSC) by reinforcing 2% Silicon Carbide and 5% Walnut Shell Powder (WSP) particles. Microstructure analysis, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy Analysis (FESEM), X-ray Diffraction Analysis (XRD), Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectrograph Analysis (EDS), Tensile strength and Hardness were used to investigate fabricated samples. Stirring time and stirring speed taken as process parameters. Microstructure analysis reveals that there is homogeneous presence of reinforcement in AA6063-T6 hybrid composite, with no void present. FESEM analysis shows there is a good bonding of reinforcement with little porosity. XRD analysis revealed that there are no intermetallic compounds formed, in which AlMnSi have highest peak followed by Cu2Zn and NiSi2. In contrast to AA6063-T6 alloy, fabricated AA6063-T6/2%SiC/5%WSP composite enhanced their tensile strength & hardness by 40% & 29% respectively.
