Characteristics of Phraseological Lexis in English Military-Political Discourse

Abstract

The research is devoted to the description of English phraseological lexis and determination of its features in media military-political discourse. The research presents the analysis of the term “military-political discourse” with its defining characteristics and esteems the specificity of the USA mass media military-political discourse based on the principle of semantic antithesis and characterized by the evident conflict-generating potential. The presented structural typology determines the most frequent forms of phraseological lexis used in the analyzed mass media resources. The semantic analysis of the sampled lexis illustrates its predominantly negative evaluative connotation. The practical significance of the study shows the options to apply the suggested description of phraseology in teaching military interpreters. The results of the study testify the invariant components of military conflict concept sphere and reveal their structural and functional characteristics by means of phraseology.
