Abstract

This chapter discusses co-fairings in animation. Co-fairings are always applied to linear movements and are always used in conjunction with normal fairings, an initial co-fairing being used with a final fairing and a final co-fairing with an initial fairing. Such fairings are usually used on travelling peg-bar movements. A situation is considered in which a character, animated on a cycle of eels, walks into picture right to left against a static background. When the character reaches a specified point in the screen area, usually the center, it is required to change the movement from an advancing character right to left to a retreating background left to right. This means the peg-bar on which the character is registered has to be faired to a stop, and, simultaneously, the peg-bar on which the background is registered has to be faired to a speed equal to that previously used on the character bar but in the opposite direction.
