Abstract
This chapter introduces the basic elements of molecular imaging. It describes some recent advances in instrumentation, image quantification methodologies, and biology/medicine that enhance the growing use of molecular imaging. It provides examples that highlight the role of information technology in molecular imaging and shows a few applications that illustrate how molecular imaging is being used in biology, medicine, and pharmacology today. A few new developments are also briefly addressed to indicate some exciting topic areas that are expected to be forthcoming to further enrich molecular imaging in biology, pharmacology, and medicine.
