Abstract

This chapter presents an introduction to fluid sampling concepts and how it effects on the oil and gas reservoir management. Furthermore, this chapter demonstrates the sampling methods including bottom-hole samples, surface sampling, formation testers, and wellhead sampling. In addition, it presents the advantages and drawbacks of surface and subsurface sampling methods. Next, this chapter provides the full description of recombination methods along with several real oil and gas field examples. Moreover, a thorough explanation of pressure–volume–temperature (PVT) tests (differential test, swelling test, separator test, constant composition test, constant volume depletion, and differential liberation test) along with advantages, drawbacks, and calculation procedures is given. Also, it provides which PVT test provides which information and how to calculate them from raw data samples. Finally, this chapter explains the flash calculation procedure. In this regard, several real field examples are provided. Finally, at the end of the chapter, several useful problems are provided.
