Abstract

An introduction to the debate between direct and indirect realist theories of perception is given. It is pointed out that direct realist theories predominate among philosophy working in the philosophy of perception, while indirect realist theories predominate among scientists working in the neurosciences. Motivations for each position are given, along with pointing out their mutual incompatability.
