Abstract
In this chapter, a brief introduction to bamboo and bamboo fibres and their history is presented. An introduction to natural fibres and their importance in textile apparel industry is given. The evolution of bamboo and a brief history of bamboo and bamboo fibres is discussed. The use of bamboo fibres in the production of bamboo textiles is mentioned. A detailed information on taxonomy and geographical distribution of various species is also presented. At the end of chapter, a brief note on the prospects of bamboo fibres and their composites is also given.
