Abstract

Liver is a highly susceptible organ due to the significantly high number of mechanisms taking place in it. Several synthetic drugs used in the treatment of liver diseases show adverse effects. However, natural products show no or significantly low adverse effects. In line with this, curcumin has been found to play a pivotal role in combating oxidative liver damage in several liver diseases by ameliorating multifarious signaling pathways. This chapter highlights the substantial therapeutic efficacy of curcumin against liver diseases such as fibrosis, cirrhosis, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), alcoholic liver disease (ALD). It also throws light on a few mechanisms of liver injury as well as curcumin-mediated protection.
