Abstract

In the preparation methods for porous ceramics, some techniques are similar to those used to prepare porous metals (such as the appending pore-forming agent and polymeric sponge impregnation process). In addition to these methods, some characteristic ones to fabricate porous ceramics are introduced in this chapter, such as ceramic foaming and the sol-gel method. Also, new processing techniques for porous ceramics, including the wood ceramics process, freeze-drying, and self-propagating high temperature synthesis (SHS). Finally, the preparation of new types of porous ceramics, including hydrophobic porous ceramics, ceramic foam with gradient pores, fiber porous ceramics, porous ceramics with directionally arrayed pores, and porous ceramic composites, is discussed.
