Abstract

All the applications of porous materials must be related to the pore characteristics. To a great extent, the properties of porous materials depend on the porosity, pore morphology, and pore size and pore size distribution, which are the most basic intrinsic factors. The characterization and test methods for these basic factors, as well as specific surface area, are introduced in this chapter. These pore factors are dominant and need to be related to the material selection and design when the practical application of porous materials are considered. Mercury intrusion, which can determine a number of pore factors, is discussed in particular. Finally, comparison and analysis of the different methods are detailed.
