Abstract

Arthropods have coevolved with plants for millions of years. As plants have evolved defenses, arthropods have adapted to these defenses. The same is true for crops bred by humans to suffer less damage. Arthropods can overcome host-plant resistance. In this chapter, we present a variety of cases involving traditionally bred and genetically engineered (transgenic) crops. Resistance management has proved successful, though not always. Cooperation and coordination and other human behaviors are critical to effective management.
