Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is one of the most common causes of autonomic dysfunction. Severity of diabetic autonomic neuropathy is correlated with duration and severity of hyperglycemia. Diabetic autonomic dysfunction causes significant morbidity, and in the case of cardiac autonomic neuropathy (CAN) increases mortality risk in diabetes. Treatment of diabetic autonomic neuropathy is focused on prevention and symptomatic treatment. Recognition of autonomic dysfunction is important for risk modification and symptom management.
