Abstract

This chapter introduces Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), the causative agent of Coronavirus Disease of 2019 (COVID-19). It starts by giving an overview of the organism, the disease burden, symptoms, prevention, and control measures. It then explains the need for microorganisms as vaccines and treatment aids and why the potential of microorganisms as treatments for COVID-19 should be encouraged. Ivermectin and Azithromycin as potential antimicrobial agents against COVID-19 were also explained. By the end of the chapter, the potential of microorganisms as sources of drugs for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) will be known. A discussion on therapeutic options/points of microbial targets as well as suggestive approaches against SARS-CoV-2 was included.
