Abstract

The chapter discusses the concepts and step-by-step procedures that are required to make the ISA Server 2004 firewall both a virtual private network (VPN) remote access server (RAS) and a VPN gateway used for site-to-site VPN connections. This includes connecting to third-party VPN gateways. Special cases of publishing Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) and Layer Two Tunneling Protocol over Internet Protocol Securiy (L2TP/IPSec) VPN servers behind the ISA Server 2004 firewall are also explored in the chapter. The ISA firewall's VPN gateway supports IPSec tunnel mode, PPTP, and L2TP/IPSec connections from other VPN gateways. The chapter also discusses issues related to the ISA firewall's support for VPN clients and gateways, including Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) authentication and DHCP server configuration.
